You know how it is.  When God tells you that you are going to do something in the future, but just not yet, we try to speed things up.  We try to help God out because we are not good at waiting, especially in this culture of instant gratification.    We’ve gotta have it or do it now! And then we actually start to question God.  Did you change Your mind?  Is it still the thing you want me to do?  How come it’s taking so long.  And we start to worry and fret.

And just this morning, there was a discussion on the antichrist and one person declared that he is already in power and working to destroy our world.  Her point was that the persecution of Christians is escalating, even here in the good ole US of A. Yes, it surely is! And we get worried that it will affect us or our loved ones.  And it just might!  But slow down, that’s not what the Bible says!

2 Peter 3:9

The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. Instead He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

So, what do these two things have to do with each other, you ask?  WAITING! The first is us waiting on God’s timing and the second is God waiting for those last few that would come to faith in Jesus.

But you’ll notice, in both instances we fret, we start to worry, we question God.  When that happens, I don’t know about you, but I start getting a little cranky or preachy.  I have to remind myself, or God has to remind me, that He can still be trusted, that His timing is perfect and that His plans never fail.

But how in the world are we supposed to handle all this, I mean these are huge things, without worry or fret or trying to help God?  (Because you just KNOW He needs my help!  LOL) Well, I had to write the last two blogs about LAUGHTER and JOY for this very reason.  I was getting all caught up in world pressures and worries that I lost sight of the real truth, God’s truth.

This is what I know.

Jeremiah 29:11-13

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.12 Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Ephesians 1:11-12

11 In him we were also chosen,[e] having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, 12 in order that we, who were the first to put our hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.

Ephesians 2:10

10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

So check it out!  We are part of God’s plan – we have been chosen.  We have a job in that plan that God prepared in advance for us to do.  And thirdly, if we seek Him with ALL of our heart we will find Him and His plan will be completed in us.

promises

So, again, what do we do in the meantime?  We keep our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith!  If we take our eyes off of Him, we sink, we question and we start to worry and fret.

Once again, the amazing Lindsay McCaul has a fitting song about this very topic.  It’s called “The In Between”.

Some days I see how You  me such a long way

It’s kinda funny on those same days

I feel so far away from where we’ll be

I know sometimes what it means for me to follow

Is stepping out into the unknown

Believing You are slowly changing me

Right now all I’m longing for is what comes next

But I’ve found all You want is just another step

Somehow this is no longer and this great not yet is where I can see

I can trust You with the in between

Someday I’ll see the beauty that You made from heartache

When You redeem our every mistake

Every single day I’m getting that much closer

Every leap of faith is leading me back home

I’m living in the tension of what’s been and what will be

In between

Right now and all I’m longing for and what comes next

I’ve found You’ll be with me every single step

Somehow this no longer and this great not yet

Is where I should be

Right now all I’m longing for is what comes next

But I’ve found all You want is just another step

Somehow this no longer and this great not yet

Is where I can see

I can trust you with the In Between
