Today I am coming to you because our country is in a total and complete mess. And I see a lot of Christians in total unrest, fighting with other Christians, to the point where they are saying you have to vote a particular party line or you’re not a real Christian. Really? If ever there was an election that took the “party” out of party, this is it! My advice; ask God who HE wants in the white house and don’t get bogged down by details. He will put who He wants in charge! Proverbs 8:15 “By me kings reign, and rulers decree justice. And in Isaiah 49:7b ““Kings will see and arise, princes will also bow down, because of the Lord who is faithful, the Holy One of Israel who has chosen You.”
Did God foresee this? You bet! Did He give us examples of what to do? You bet! Did He give us reassurance so we could have some peace? Absolutely!
So, let’s start off in Isaiah 6 verses 1-4
“In the year of King Uzziah’s death I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Seraphim stood above Him, each having six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one called out to another and said,
“Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts,
The whole earth is full of His glory.”
4 And the foundations of the thresholds trembled at the voice of him who called out, while the temple was filling with smoke.”
The vision itself isn’t the focus; it’s the perfect timing. The king had just died and the country was in utter chaos. The had no new king which meant civil unrest, violence, breaking of laws publicly and economic uncertainty. Sound familiar?
And what do we see? God on His throne! God has not abdicated His throne; He has not let someone else take the reigns. On the contrary, He is in charge and mightily! I say mightily because He is “high and lifted up!” He is high!
You may be asking yourself right now, “How did He get lifted up? How did He come about to be so high? I would venture to say that it’s because of the praise of His creations; the seraphim were totally praising Him which says to me that He is still worthy of our praise!
So how does that pertain to us? We should be praising Him in our darkest, most scariest times. we should be praising Him when we are scared and confused and our world is in chaos. Why? Because this is God’s will for us in Christ Jesus!
“16 Rejoice always; 17 pray without ceasing; 18 in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18
Another reason that comes to mind; God is lifted up when we praise Him. He loves to hear our praises. It reminds me of that scene in Mary Poppins where they go into the pub with the bubbles and the cute little man gets his chair lifted right off the ground and into the air; he just can’t stop laughing and is full of joy!
I know it’s hard sometimes; especially in the circumstances we are in today. That’s why in Hebrews 13:15 it says this… “15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.” Get that! The sacrifice of praise! And even the beginning of the Lord’s prayer starts with praise and adoration to God.
So how do we go about praising when things are at their darkest? Maybe you can’t even start with a single word? Maybe you’re so frozen you can’t even utter a word in prayer. I’ve been there; so afraid to move because you’ll get eaten alive or just die. I always start with worship music. God told me to start here because I wasn’t getting a good start otherwise. This always changes my focus and let’s me focus on how big God is. Shoot, you may even start dancing around your house! And if it’s just too big and you still can’t wrap your heart around worshiping or praying, that’s okay. God’s still got you covered!
“26 In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.” Romans 8:26-27
Here’s the deal. For these purposes, the vision isn’t the main focus; it’s the timing of the vision. The king had just died. The country was in a state of chaos. They had no ruler. There was civil unrest, there was violence, and there was economic uncertainty. Sound familiar? It totally should!
I love it that when we just can’t quite get there, or we can’t even get close, the Spirit handles it for us. I bet his groanings are way better than my human words could ever be!
So today, as you go about your day, I challenge you to praise. Praise Him that you have a car when you get stuck at that red light. Praise Him that you have a house even if there’s no air conditioning. Praise Him that there’s somewhere to cool off if you have no air conditioning! Praise Him that you have salvation, grace, love and mercy! There’s always tons to praise God for; even in the middle of your darkest times.
So again, to reassure you…
