So in our last song from Handel’s Messiah, we go to the throne room scene in heaven in Revelation chapter five.  All of creation in heaven has been watching as the bowls and the seals have been revealed one by painstaking one.  God is giving the last chances for anyone on earth who would believe in Jesus to come and for their name to be written in the Lamb’s book of life.

And we come to the seventh seal, but nobody is worthy to open it.  Revelation 5:2-4:

And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the book and to break its seals?” And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look into it. Then I began to weep greatly because no one was found worthy to open the book or to look into it;

John was crying, he was so moved.

And just when everyone is getting frustrated and emotional, the elder says wait!

V5: “Stop weeping; behold, the Lion that is from the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.”

And after He had opened the seventh seal, the angels, the living creatures (us) and the elders begin to praise Jesus.

V11-14  Then I looked, and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders; and the number of them was myriads of myriads, and thousands of thousands, 12 saying with a loud voice,

“Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing.”

13 And every created thing which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all things in them, I heard saying,

“To Him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, be blessing and honor and glory and dominion forever and ever.”

14 And the four living creatures kept saying, “Amen.” And the elders fell down and worshiped.

You can hear this song here!

This song gives us many things:  A glimpse of the things in heaven and what we will be doing. Praising Jesus and being a part of the conversation of heaven.  How exciting can you get!  The fact that we, along with everyone else in heaven is not worthy.  Only through the blood of Jesus are we privileged enough to be there at all.  Then there is the fact that God is patient not wishing anyone who would come not to have their final chance to say yes to Him.

Along with all of these awesome things, there is the fact that there are bowls and seals and trumpets.  Those are not good things that are being poured out upon the earth.  But they are to draw the remaining men and women to Jesus.  Everyone who would come at all.  Just think about this picture.  God uses anything and everything in His power to draw all men to Himself.  Sometimes that means the bad things that happen in our lives.  And He doesn’t want us to make them a ‘god’ in our lives.

Sometimes we do that, you know.  We get a bad diagnosis at the doctor and instead of reading our Bible or using our time to pray, we start researching and putting everything we have into that diagnosis.  And because we put our all into that thing, it becomes our God.  All we have to do is cry out to Jesus instead.

So today, no matter what’s happening in your life, listen to this song and praise Jesus along with all of heaven.  And cry out to God if you need to.  He is worthy and will be there for you.  After all, He loves us so much that He’s patient for us to come to Him.

XOXO, Linda
