Does God ever show you something a tad bit differently from the original meaning? I mean, sometimes I ask God off the wall questions, and sometimes it’s like He flashes a light bulb in my teeny, tiny brain. It’s what He wants me to see, what He wants me to understand. I’m sure this happens to you as well.
On this particular day, I think we were watching a preview of an up and coming television show – can’t begin to tell you what it’s called or when it starts. That’s because I had this overwhelming urge to write down this concept to share with you all.
2 And behold, a severe earthquake had occurred, for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven and came and rolled away the stone and sat upon it. 3 And his appearance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. 4 The guards shook for fear of him and became like dead men. Matthew 24:2-4.
Okay so an angel was sent down to roll the stone away. We’ve all heard that like a million times. But here’s what I realized! God send His angels to roll boulders away in our lives as well! Huge, million ton boulders!
So many of us are facing health issues, brain tumors, cut off limbs, the big C- Cancer, money problems, losing our jobs, losing our homes, losing a spouse. Whatever the huge boulder in your life may be! Believe you me, I have tried and tried to move some of those huge, extremely heavy boulders myself. Can’t seem to even budge them one iota, one minuscule little bit. It’s an uphill battle – and an impossible one at that!
Now here’s the part where I don’t want to make light of it and say,”It’s okay, God will fix it.” Because we all know sometimes we can’t find God in our struggles and boulders, even though He’s right there with us. Here’s where our faith – deep abiding faith – comes in.
“May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us nor forsake us.” 1 Kings 8:57 and it is repeated again. “…because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5
And when God repeats something, it is so we, in our humanly tiny minds, will know He means it. Strongly.
And not only will He not leave us, He also promises, “For He will give His angels charge concerning you, To guard you in all your ways. 12 They will bear you up in their hands, That you do not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:11-12
He sends His angels to protect us and to help us move that boulder up that hill. Or change our perspective, or change our heart. You see, sometimes it is for our own good that we go through these things, so we will “gain” out of the situation.
What could we possibly “gain” from this, you ask? More faith, deeper faith. Maybe it’s not even for us. Maybe, could it possibly be that others are watching how we handle this situation and it’s a testimony of God’s grace to them!
In part two, I will talk a bit about God’s glory shining through the situations in our lives, and us being willing to let it.
Just remember this! “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28
