For those of you who don’t know, I went to a Christian High school and was in choir. I loved it so much. I was especially impacted by my freshman year’s selection of songs we learned along with some other Christian High Schools and we all sang together. I’d only ever heard the Hallelujah Chorus up to this point, so some of these other songs really made me love this entire work.
So this year, I’ve decided to pick apart the lyrics and show you exaactly in the Bible where they are and what they mean. Without further ado, here’s the first one.
Here are the entire words to this cute chorus, “All We Like Sheep” in Handle’s Messiah. How you get an entire chorus out of this, I’ll never know. Only God.
All we like sheep have gone astray. We have turned every one to his own
Way. And the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all. (Isaiah 53: 6)
That’s it. Nothing else. The pure unadulterated Word of God. You can’t get better lyrics than that!
Not much to pick apart. We have messed up. Each and every one of us. We have missed the mark. This is why we need Jesus!
Some places in the Bible about this: Luke 18:19 was a huge one because Jesus Himself said it. “And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call, when someone Me good? No one is good except God alone.” Even Jesus did not call Himself good. And yet what do we say when someone dies? They were a good person. And what do we say when we feel bad about something we’ve done? I’m a good person. Apparently we aren’t. But wait! There’s hope in Jesus!
We’ll get into more of that in our next blog. The next one has more to pick apart and more to study. This is the foundation we just had to start with.
Love you all, XOXO And just in case you missed it: Talk about not being a good person…
But Look What God Did! One Woman’s Journey Through Shame and Guilt is now out!
One woman, so many obstacles to overcome. From emotional abuse, to being a pregnant teenager. Then there’s the bad marriages and divorces to sexual abuse. And finally the horrid, most awful, ultimately ugliest thing ever; being a bad mom. Did God abandon her? Did God turn His face away from her? NO! So many obstacles, but one huge, forgiving, grace giving God! And there’s hope for you, too…
