dc talk, free in christ jesus, high school days, i am free, queen of excuses, saying yes to god, whats in it for you, you, you are not alone
Okay, so what does my finally saying yes to God have to do with you? What’s in it for you? I’m so glad you asked! (LOL) (And apparently, Lysa TerKeurst has a book called, “What Happens When A Woman Says Yes to God… hmmm, I have to put that on my list. Who knew!)
In case you missed them, here are the last two posts:
Well, right off the bat – if I can do it, ANYONE can do it! To quote a song by DC Talk, “I am the ‘Queen’ of excuses, I’ve got one for every single thing I do”. And as I discussed in the first post, I’m also a great procrastinator. why do it today? I can always do it tomorrow. But you will be so much more at peace, satisfied and full of joy and contentment if you just say yes right from the beginning. James 5:12 Above all, my brothers and sisters, do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. All you need to say is a simple “Yes” or “No.” Otherwise you will be condemned. And it’s your daily choice.
Shoot, That’s one of the things that I personally learned. If God says do it, it means now. And if you put it off, you only miss out for the length of time you keep putting Him off. Shoot, I could have been experiencing this much sooner. If only I’d listened….
Secondly, God’s plans for my day and yours are mucho grander than mine. Mucho! I had the best day waiting on Him, listening to Him and obeying Him. It was peaceful and full of hope. And although I finally caved in and ate around three, I knew I had accomplished what God set out for me to do. There was a finality. But I didn’t want it to stop. So I kept wandering around doing some of the things I had done previously in the day, but nothing took hold. And His plans for you are better and greater than you can even imagine or think! (Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than ALL we can ask or imagine, according to His power that is in work within us, to Him be the glory forever and ever Amen!)
Thirdly, one of my hugest chains – one that I have been carrying around since at least high school days is broken! I am free! And it was proven to me beyond a shadow of a doubt yesterday. Does this mean I will never ever start down the path of thinking the same way? Probably not. But it means that if I “hold every thought captive” I have been freed by Jesus and I can tell that nasty old devil that he can no longer use this area against me! This can happen for you, too!
There are tons of people walking around in our churches that have terribly heavy chains they carry. And we stay silent about them because we feel shamed or embarrassed or alone in our struggles. You must realize that you are not alone! It’s such a lie of Satan and it keeps you oppressed and in some cases depressed. It’s amazing when you open your mouth about your biggest shame or struggle, just how many other people in the room are going through, have went through, something either exactly the same, or similar to what’s dragging you down.
Oh, brothers and sisters, hear me now! If you do nothing you will be under that heavy load forever! And that’s just what that mean old devil wants. He wants to keep you from being free in Christ Jesus! He wants to keep you from doing the good work that God has planned for your life. And if you let him, he will succeed. I claim for you right now in this moment, the blood of Jesus that overcomes!
I claim for you right now that you will be free in Christ Jesus! And whatever that chain is that’s hanging around your neck, it will be loosed and broken in Jesus’ mighty name and power!
It is too heavy for you to carry… it was never yours to handle!
“Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles.” Psalm 2:3
“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Isaiah 58:6
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works which He has prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
So what’s in it for you? These things and many, many more! It’s your choice. And like James 5:12 says, you just need to say “Yes” to God.
